New Shelter!
Posted on October 3rd, 2008
So it's about time something new was mentioned, and what news we have! Okay, so for all of you who have already been to the shelter on a regular basis, you know about the new area, but for those of you who haven't, please read on!
Around 5 months ago, work was finally commenced on the building of an entirely new area beside the current location of the Peanut Pet Shelter. What was at first nothing but a scrapheap beside the house, gradually with the help of a little bit of elbow grease became something ready for the foundations of this new doggy home.
Once the walls were erected, a 5' wide path was cleared on two adjoining sides of the shelter area for the new pens. As soon as the cement had settled, wooden beams and the rest of the framework was put in place for the roofing. Once this was done, we all really started to get an idea of what the shelter would look like. The derelict lot no longer looked like it did, and now more a shelter than anything else.
The roofing came next, and barring a few minor hiccups, the roofing was finished in record time. The "shelter" had been put into the shelter, so to speak. From there, walls were put into place for each individual pen and with the inclusion of a few makeshift doors, we got our first batch of puppies into their new temporary homes. Since then, more canine visitors have been taking up residence in the Shelter.
And now that we've cleared up a lot of the rubble and debris in the central area, two new dog-runs were added for a little more room for our 80+ dogs to run around in.
The shelter is still incomplete, but around 90% done. Given a few more weeks and the place should be fully operational with a pen free for every new arrival.
A lot of thanks go out to all of our loyal supporters, old and new, to have gotten this far. Thank you all!!!!!
