A couple of times a year a group of volounteer vets take the trip from the USA down here to Playa del Carmen where they set up a free spay & neuter clinic for those responsible pet owners that are unable to afford to pay to have this done.

The clinics usually last for 4 days at a time and the vets will do sometimes three clinics in the Playa area one after the other.
We volunteered our help at the latest clinic, in an after care role, to remove the IV's , de-tick and clean the animals up after their ops and just to be there when they awoke from the anesthetic, as many are frightened and need reassurance.

It was a humbling experience to see these vets working in the sweltering heat operating on animal after animal with very little rest.

At one point we were given a new born kitten to revive after it and 4 others had been delivered by c-section. It was amazing to be able to hold this tiny kitten and hear its first cries.

We look forward to helping out again next time.
